WHAT I DID
- Built the local two-player system, including separate controls and player HUDs.
- Created the step-based movement system, with alternating movement and constrained turning.
- Developed the aiming and shooting mechanics using line traces and hit detection.
- Built a round management system handling countdowns, resets, scoring, cameras, and round progression.
- Created body-part-specific injuries, with head, arm, leg, and torso hits affecting later rounds.
- Added gameplay feedback including ragdoll reactions, Niagara gun smoke, blood effects, slow motion, and hit quotes.
- Implemented the round-end presentation, including winner/loser states and player resets.
CHALLENGES
Local Multiplayer UI:
One challenge was ensuring each local player had the correct Player Controller and HUD. I reworked widget ownership and Player Controller references so both players could independently receive gameplay UI.
Physics Feedback:
I used Unreal's physics and skeletal collision system to apply impulses at the specific hit location, allowing characters to react dynamically to shots.
Round Resetting:
Because effects needed to persist between rounds while characters themselves reset, I separated persistent match data from temporary character state.
